FIREFIGHTERS have worked through the night to control seven deliberately lit fires in the Gnangara pines.
Emergency crews were called to the pine plantation in Perth's northern suburbs at about 1am, after the police Air Wing noticed the fires and a suspicious vehicle in the area.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services says the fires were lit at seven ignition points ranging between one and 10 hectares in size.
Police located the vehicle in the area a short time later and took two men, aged 23 and 30, into custody.
They are assisting the Arson Squad with their inquiries.
Log Road has been closed to motorists while sixty fire crews from DFES, the Department of Parks and Wildlife and volunteers work to control the blaze.
Two waterbombers will also be used this morning to assist crews on the ground.
A bushfire advice has been issued for residents in Mariginiup and Jandabup.
There is no immediate danger but residents are asked to:
- watch for smoke and flames
- be careful when driving through the area
- turn headlights on and drive slowly
