YALE University has advised students and staff to shelter in place while authorities investigate a report of a person with a gun on or near its campus in New Haven, Connecticut.
Yale issued the alert Monday morning and advised those on campus to remain in place until there is additional information.
"Confirmed report of a person with a gun on/near Old Campus. Shelter in Place. This is not a test," an emergency alert on the University's website read. The alert was also read out on campus loudspeakers.
Police are "actively" looking for a gunman believed to be on the lose on campus, with a SWAT team and members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, reports the New Haven Independent. No one has been shot, authorities said. Authorities have closed off nearby streets as they conduct their hunt, NEWS8wtnh.com reports.
Police received an anonymous call from a phone booth reporting a person on campus with a gun.
Police earlier said on radio they have a student who may have called in the threat, and were pursuing a possible suspect.
Many students at the exclusive Ivy League school are not on campus this week due to the US holiday of Thanksgiving on Thursday.
