'Facebook killer' Derek Medina pleads not guilty to murder of his wife, claims self defence

A US man has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the killing of his wife, whose bloody corpse was shown in photos he later posted on Facebook.
Prosecutors also said on Wednesday no decision has been made on whether to seek the death penalty for 31-year-old Derek Medina in the August 8 shooting death of 26-year-old Jennifer Alonso. Mr Medina's attorneys have said that he was acting in self-defence and that Alonso was the aggressor.
Mr Medina did not speak during the brief hearing. His plea was entered by one of his attorneys.
Prosecutors say evidence shows that Mr Medina had vowed to kill his wife if she ever attempted to leave him and that she was cowering when she was shot. Mr Medina told detectives he posted the Facebook photos so family could see what had happened.
Derek Medina (L) shot and killed his wife Jennifer Alfonso (R) then posted photos of her corpse on Facebook.
